Isn’t this baby cute? She is trying to be a lion. Though she is dressed like a lion, she lacks a lion’s power. Though she tries to growl like a lion, she lacks a lion’s authority. No matter how hard she tries, she will never be a lion.
Satan is the same way. From the beginning of time, he studied God. Rather than enjoying God’s presence, he decided he wanted to become God. Satan wanted the glory that only God can possess (see Ezekiel 28).
He emulates who he cannot become.
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
1 Peter 5:8 NIV
Everyday, he gets up, puts on his “lion costume”, and plays dress-up.
The problem is that WE believe him.
Rather than seeing that he is playing pretend, we act as if he is the real lion. We tremble at his approach. We cower at his growl. We fail to realize that Satan is not the lion.
Jesus is.
“Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Revelation 5:5 NIV
Though Satan talks a big talk, he cannot walk the walk. Only Jesus can. So today, I encourage you to shift your focus. Whatever the enemy is attacking you with, Jesus is the answer. He is the one with power. He is the one with authority and He is the one who has defeated the enemy. Trust Him.

So true– the enemy wants nothing more than to deceive us and destroy our lives. Jesus has ALL the power but so often we live like He doesn’t. We need that transformation you spoke of– a change of focus. Thanks for a great post!
