Note: I contemplated whether or not I wanted to share this or not because its so intimate. I realize this is not a typical Christmas devotional so bear with me.
Well, he found me.
He’s everything I hoped for and more. Funny thing is…I’ve known him for years. He was right in front of me all of this time and I’m just now realizing it.
I’ve always dreamed of meeting my husband. Imagining what he may look like, his personality (secretly praying that he’s funny and kind lol). In high school, I yearned for a high school sweetheart. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. After graduation, I hoped for a college love story. Unfortunately, that did not work out either. Then just after law school, I just knew I’d meet him, but again I was disappointed. You can only imagine my frustration over the years.
From a young age I would hear the Holy Spirit say, “Am I enough for you?” To be honest, I’d either brush it off or say, “Yes, but…I still want a man.”
Can you relate? You love God, but…You want to be married. Now you’re approaching another holiday alone. Everyone around you is getting married and you want that too. You want to be loved and cared for LIKE that. You pray and fast and weep for God to grant your request, but your situation seems to stay the same year after year.
Have you considered what your requests may mean to God?
Recently, the Holy Spirit shared this with me and I want to share it with you. We’ve discussed this passage before in a past post but how many of you know the Word is alive and active? As you read, please take special note of God’s tone and his responses.
““Look,” they told him, “you are now old, and your sons are not like you. Give us a king to judge us LIKE all the other nations have.” Samuel was displeased with their request and went to the Lord for guidance. ““Do everything they say to you,” the Lord replied, “for they are rejecting me, not you. They don’t want me to be their king any longer.”
Ever since I brought them from Egypt they have continually abandoned me and followed other gods. And now they are giving you the same treatment. Do as they ask, but solemnly warn them about the way a king will reign over them.” So Samuel passed on the Lord’s warning to the people who were asking him for a king.
The king will take your daughters from you and force them to cook and bake and make perfumes for him. He will take away the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his own officials.
But the people refused to listen to Samuel’s warning. “Even so, we still want a king,” they said. “We want to be LIKE the nations around us. Our king will judge us and lead us into battle.” So Samuel repeated to the Lord what the people had said, and the Lord replied, “Do as they say, and give them a king.” Then Samuel agreed and sent the people home.”
1 Samuel 8:5-10, 13-14, 19-22 NLT
The people of Israel heard the warning, but they still wanted what they wanted. They are like us. They want a human being not recognizing they have EVERYTHING they need in God. Their desire for a person caused them to dismiss warnings and red flags from the prophet of God. If I’m honest, I’ve been there. I received red flag after red flag, warning after warning, but I still wanted that which wasn’t God’s best for me.
As we see in the scripture above, God will eventually give you what you ask for. Israel wanted a king so God gave them one. Israel’s kings wreaked havoc, caused confusion, introduced idolatry, and turned them away from God. Israel’s desires ruined them.
Maybe you’re experiencing some adverse effects of longing for the wrong things. Maybe you’ve exhausted yourself searching for a man or woman to fill that void in your heart. I have a revelation that may shift the trajectory of your life.
What if I told you I found the One you are looking for?
Take a moment to listen to this song. I believe it is a direct message from the Father. One morning in early November, as I slept, I heard this song being sung over me. When I woke up, the song was still in my spirit and I couldn’t shake it.
I heard the Spirit say over and over, “You don’t have to search no more. I’m the One you’re looking for. When you call me, I will respond.” It was as if He was saying, “I’m not like man. When you call Me, I always respond. I will not leave you hanging. I won’t let you down. Trust me. I’m right here.”
I was undone and I still am.
It’s funny because this song is calling for us to respond to God. To hear it inverted, changed my perspective. I had missed something that was right in front of my face all of this time! Jesus is the One.
Friend, you can rest now. He’s the One you’ve been looking for. Merry Christmas.
Big hugs,
Ayanna
