In the Christian vernacular there are a lot of colloquialisms that are not based in Scripture. However, there is one that does have a basis in Scripture. It’s often recited to singles.
“You are hidden” or “God is hiding you.”
I’ve heard it repeated on various platforms. Personally, I wouldn’t think much about it, but it was annoying to hear over and over.
Well the Holy Spirit enlightened me this morning (Valentine’s Day Eve) and gave me scriptural basis for this claim.
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.”
Matthew 13:44 NLT
And even now as I write this note, I am reminded that God has been known to hide things and people throughout Scripture. Think about David who was hidden for a large chunk of his life. From his value being hidden from his family to his kingship being hidden from the nation. Think Moses who was hidden in the cleft of the rock so that God’s presence would not kill him. And we can’t forget the prophets in Elijah’s day who were hidden in caves.
Hiding is one of the ways God protects things He values.
Anyway back to Matthew 13:44, when a man found treasure hidden in a field, he went back and hid it again. Then he sold all he had so that he could buy the entire field.
He did not lay the treasure out in the open to be exposed to the elements, to be ruined by animals, or to be stolen by thieves. Instead, he saw so much value in what he found that he wanted to ensure it maintained its value and remained unharmed. So he covered it. Hid it in a special place.
God places high value on you and I. So don’t be surprised if He hides you too. He’ll unveil you when the time and conditions are right.
Hugs,
Ayanna
